Couston Crofts

Project Overview

Project Description:

There will be some situations where it is the best you can achieve rather than delivering the optimum solution, particularly when it comes to retrofit.

From the pictures forwarded to us there are areas where it is not possible to create an air space either side of the SuperFOIL and this is certainly the case when it comes to terminating at existing door and window frames/reveals.

The options available in those areas where the framing leaves very little space include:
Trimming the number of layers of the SuperFOIL
Reducing the batten depth or the use of shims as fixing points
The use of only 1 batten
Terminating the SuperFOIL 100mm/ 200mm or more from the frame and completing the run with an alternative insulation( e.g mineral wool/PIR)

At these points there will be a reduction in the thermal improvement achieved.

In terms of batten spacing particularly where the length of wall involved is a significant length the space between the battens affixed to the wall can be increased to spacings of up to 1200mm. In these instances it is important to ensure the tension in the SuperFOIL when installed is sufficient to prevent 'sagging'.

If you provide details of your planned treatment in these instances our technical team can run the appropriate calculations to demonstrate the improvements that will be achieved.
